Silas “Tidy” Hadaway Turner, 92, of Blue Ridge, passed away peacefully after a prolonged illness in Blue Ridge with loved ones by his side Saturday, November 13, 2021.

A graveside service was held Thursday, November 18, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Cedar Ridge Cemetery with the Reverend John Haney officiating. The family greeted friends from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Hart’s Mortuary, Jones County Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St.Jude Place, Memphis Tennessee, 38105.

Son of the late Thomas Ray and India “Pat” Hadaway Turner, Tidy was a wonderful, loving husband and a great father and grandfather. He graduated from Jones County High School and attended Mercer University, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He was a dairyman for several years in Jones County before serving in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was stationed at Arlington Hall, Virginia, in ASA where he met his future wife, Patricia Ann Bishop.

Tidy really enjoyed feeding his deer, gardening, woodworking, working with his tractor and keeping everything neat and looking beautiful. He really enjoyed friends and would invite them over for a barbeque meal. Ted and Martha Stone were two of his closest friends for 66 years, and he considered them family. Tidy also enjoyed a lifetime of fishing, boating, golfing, reading, motorcycles and traveling everywhere.

After serving in the Army, Tidy returned to the dairy for several years. He then went to work for Independent Life Insurance for several years then went on to work for Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Company. After two years, he was promoted to area manager of central Georgia, with his office being in Macon, Georgia. He was with Woodmen of the World for over 20 years before retiring.

Tidy enjoyed being a member of the Macon Motorboat Club, where he enjoyed numerous trips down the Ocmulgee River and other water ways with his good friends. He was also involved with their disaster unit.

Tidy was preceded in death by his great friend, Charles Jiles. He is survived by his wife of 69 years and the love of his life, Patricia Turner, of Blue Ridge; three daughters, Deborah “Debbie” McClure, of Smyrna, Georgia, Kay Tutt (Jay), of Duluth, Georgia, and Silena Donley (Doug Griffith), of Jacksonville, Alabama; grandchildren, Wesley McClure, Dee Clause, Sharon Tutt, Freda Giancola, Mary Tutt and April Fowler; and numerous great-grandchildren.
