Terry Rutherford

Mr. Charles “Terry” Rutherford, age 82, of Blue Ridge Trails, Morganton, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 11, 2021, in the Piedmont Mountainside Hospital of Jasper, Georgia, following an extended illness. 

Terry was born April 8, 1939, in Rochelle, Georgia, and was the son of the late Johnny Kermit Rutherford and Mary Opal McGlamory. Terry loved watching sports, especially Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Braves and Georgia Tech. He also refereed high school basketball for many years in Middle Georgia, which  brought him great joy. He was an avid gardener and loved fishing. 

Terry was a volunteer for the Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief and Mission Team at Blairsville First Baptist Church for many years. He dearly loved his family and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. Terry served as a deacon for Lawrence Drive Baptist Church of Macon for many years. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister; June Rutherford. Terry was a member of Blairsville First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Christine Walker Rutherford of Morganton; two sons, Jeffrey Rutherford of Northampton, Massachusetts, and Tony Rutherford of Morganton; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Derrell Rutherford of Rochelle, and Jimmy and Marty Rutherford of Hiawassee, Georgia; two sisters, Faye Willingham of Cathleen, Georgia and Jane Rutherford of Cathleen; and two grandchildren, Zachary William and Noah Fisher Rutherford of Conway, Massachusetts. 

A public viewing was held Wednesday, April 14, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home in Blairsville, Georgia.    

Graveside services will be held April 26 at 10 a.m. at the Georgia National Cemetery of Canton, Georgia, with Rev. Phil Bryant officiating. A eulogy will be presented by Jennifer Walker. Special music will be presented by Susan Walker Ornelas. Jeff Rutherford and Tony Rutherford will server as pallbearers. Flowers are being accepted, or if you wish, the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Blairsville Missions Team in Terry’s memory.
