Mr. Samuel Milton “Papa Sammy” Jenkins, 94, the son of the late Willie and Eloise Jenkins entered into eternal rest at his residence Friday, December 25, 2020.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Burke County, Georgia. He was a member of Waynesboro First Methodist United Church, holding many positions in the church at one time, and was a member of the Brinson Coleman Sunday School class. He was a United States Navy veteran serving during World War II. Upon arriving back home, he was greeted by a new son and went to work for the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Waynesboro, Georgia. He later went into the farming and farm machinery business which spanned from 1957 to 1986. During his career he held many board of directors seats including Planters EMC, Oglethorpe Power, Georgia Farm Equipment Dealers Association and the Burke County Board of Education. He was a member of the VFW.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Nell B. Jenkins; his son, Greg Jenkins and his wife Elora Lefler Jenkins; and his brother, Ted B. Jenkins.
Surviving are his children, Stan Jenkins and wife Ginger, Art Jenkins and wife Gay and Susan Reynolds and husband Tommy, all of Waynesboro; his sister, Gloria Jenkins of Grovetown and his sister-in-law, Betty Jenkins of Augusta. He is survived by 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. His extended family Mary Turner, Irene Wright, Rose Hannah, Mary Baxley and Rose Landis.
Graveside Services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2020, in Burke Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Isaac D. Salgado officiating.
