Amos “Richard” Jones, age 85, of Blue Ridge, passed away May 6, 2021. 

He was born May 31, 1935, to the late Wesley and Cora Jones of Jack’s River. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Shirley. 

He is survived by his son, Phil (Shelia) Jones; grandchildren, Chris Jones, Staci (Jody) Barfield and Andy (Jessie) Jones; great-grandchildren, Devin, Drew and Ella Barfield and Alana Jones; brother, Herdis Jones; nephew, Roger (Sharon) Jones; and sisters, Gladys Bell, Myrtle (L.H.) Hallum and Ida Watkins.

Richard was an avid outdoorsman. He hunted, fished and hiked the Cohutta Mountains his entire life. After retiring from Tri-State EMC, he spent time gardening with Shirley, attending church, “riding the roads,” hunting and fishing. In recent years, he would ride “the mower” to his favorite hunting spot and, on at least one occasion, down Highway 2! He enjoyed riding through the Cohutta mountains with his son and enjoyed visits from his friends and family. 

The family would like to express their appreciation for Richard’s caregiver, Lauri. Additionally, they want to acknowledge Cheryl, Katelyn and Jaclyn Cracknell for years of friendship, love and support for both Richard and Shirley.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 8, 2021, at 1 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Worley and Rev. Jerry Banks officiating. Music was provided by Brenda Millsaps, Rick Callihan and Rev. Danny Collis. 

Interment followed in the Mount Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers, Devin Barfield, Jody Barfield, Drew Barfield, Andy Jones, Chris Jones, Roger Jones and Bradley Watkins. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery Fund c/o of Randall Watkins, 2530 Sugar Creek Road, Blue Ridge, Georgia 30513.
