Rev. Charles Glenn Mathis Sr., age 68, of Blue Ridge, passed away unexpectedly January 2, 2022, in Blue Ridge.

He was a native of Fannin County and was the son of the late John Robert Mathis and Grace Evelyn Tipton Mathis. Charles was a Baptist Minister for 43 years and was a long time member of the Friendship #3 Baptist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt. He also was a heavy equipment operator for a number of years and later became a real estate agent serving North Georgia and Tennessee.

Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Carolyn Chancey Mathis; three sons and daughters-in-law, Charlie Mathis Jr. and Shelly Mathis of Epworth, Matt and Jessica Mathis of Blue Ridge and Brandon and Summer Mathis of Epworth; grandchildren, Easton Mathis, Mattie Mathis, Haygen Mathis, Cooper Mathis, Harper Mathis and Hudson Mathis; sisters and one brother-in-law, Marilyn and Don Postell of Epworth and Vivian Kay Mathis of Blue Ridge; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Sue Mathis of Dalton, Georgia, Donald James and Jeri Mathis of Blue Ridge and Rev. Gerald and Rita Mathis of Blairsville, Georgia; and, brother-in-law, Rev. Todd and Elizabeth Chancey of Alcoa, Tennessee.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at 1 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gerald Mathis and Rev. Matt Mathis officiating. Music was provided by the Friendship #3 Baptist Church Choir.

Interment followed in the Barnes Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Scott Smith, Jeremy Twiggs, Heath Pack, John Chastain, Jerry Chastain, Adam Mathis and B.J. Chancey. Honorary pallbearers were Easton Mathis, Cooper Mathis, Hudson Mathis, Haygen Mathis and Leslie Queen.
