Oliver Vernon Proffitt of McCaysville, passed away at his home Sunday, May 30, 2021, surrounded by his family.
Vernon was a hardworking, God-loving, family man and was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He served his country in the United States Army for which he received many awards and accolades.
His love for the Word of God was an integral part of his life and his favorite scripture is found in Romans 8:1-4 which says, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation at all for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”
He was proceeded in death by his grandson, Joshua Clapham. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joyce Proffitt; his children, Chris Proffitt (Bridget), Leigh Anne Thomas (Mike), David Proffitt (Patricia) and Allyson Proffitt (Tim); grandchildren, Lauren Ariail, Jacob Proffitt, Joshua Proffitt, Joe Proffitt, Emily Gusic, Isaiah Thomas, Victoria Ritchie, Leandra Proffitt, Alyssa Proffitt, Olivia Lariscy and Chloe Atkinson; and great grandchildren, Maddy, Lilly, Mila and Mia.
