Mildred Thomas

Mildred Thomas, age 97, of Morganton, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 20, 2021, at her home. 

Mrs. Thomas was born April 17, 1924, in Morganton, to the late Charles F. Hughes and the late Laura Pendergrass Hughes. A member of New Union Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Thomas; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ray Addington; sons, Steve Thomas and Larry Jr. Thomas; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Thomas; brothers, Loyce Hughes, Clories Hughes and Don Hughes; and sisters, Bernice Walden, Trilvia Rose, Thelma Hughes and Venes Hughes. Mildred enjoyed her grandchildren, cooking, canning, gardening and flowers. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her. 

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn and Don McClure and Gail and Larry Sutton; son, Ronald Raymond Thomas; daughter-in-law, Gigi Thomas; brother, Charles E. Hughes; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 22, 2021, at 2 p.m. at the New Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Justin Jarrett officiating. Music was provided by Trish, Emilee and Hailee Thomas. 

Interment followed in New Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mark Thomas, Cody Thomas, Kevin Sutton, Nick McClure, Jamie McClure, Brad Thomas, Justin Thomas, John Adams, Tyler Adams and Payton Ivester.
