Mary Jean Hyatt, age 90, of Blue Ridge, passed away Thursday, August 26, 2021, at her home.

Mrs. Hyatt was born April 3, 1931, in Akron, Ohio, to the late Ralph E. Pritchard and the late Maholo O. Pritchard. She was a longtime resident of Fannin County after moving here from Atlanta. Mary earned her LPN at the Pickens Technology School. Mary worked for the American Red Cross (ARC) in Atlanta, doing blood drives in Atlanta and surrounding areas.

After retiring from the ARC in Atlanta, she volunteered with the ARC of North Georgia teaching CPR and first aid and doing disaster relief all over the United States and Puerto Rico. She helped to start an ARC chapter in Fannin County.

She also volunteered at the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway doing train tours and at Christmas time as Mrs. Claus!

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband Gordon Hyatt Sr.

Survivors include her son, Gordan L Hyatt Jr.; daughter, Linda Shelhamer; grandchildren, Tammy Cantella and Steven Shelhamer; and great-grandsons, Joseph Cantella and Joshua Cantella.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Finch-Cochran Funeral home of Blue Ridge.
