Kenneth E. Wood, age 86, of Morganton, passed away February 7, 2022, at his residence.

Kenneth was born in Rossville, Georgia, to the late Thomas Mortimer Wood Jr. and Louise Cashion Wood. He graduated from Bass High School in Atlanta in 1953 and then furthered his education by receiving his bachelor’s degree from Baylor University and masters degree from the University of Georgia. Kenneth was a school teacher and coach for the Fannin County School system for 18 years and later retired after 15 years of service as a Chief Probation Officer for the Appalachia Judicial Court System. Kenneth was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, of Blue Ridge, where he served as deacon and various other positions including the Chairman of Chastain Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include his loving wife, Carmi Underwood Wood, of the home; children and their spouses, Kenneth Jr. “Chuck” and Kim  Wood, of Bowden, Georgia, and Denise Wood Lanier and J. Blake Lanier, of Carrollton, Georgia; grandchildren, Danielle Lanier, Melissa Lanier, Cody Wood, Nichole Bott and Samantha Carroll; great-grandchildren, Savannah Scott, Chelsea Wilson and Robert Wilson; brother, Wayman Wood, of Nashville, Georgia; sisters and brother-in-law, Mildred and Berlyn Clonts, of Temple, Georgia, and Jeanne Herbert, of Loganville, Georgia; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Anne Fleeman, of Blue Ridge,  Jean Underwood, of Spring Hill, Florida, and Dr. Brannon and Kathleen Underwood, of Orangeburg, South Carolina; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, February 11, 2022, at 11 a.m. from the First Baptist Church, of Blue Ridge, with Rev. Bob Richardson and Rev. Rusty Thomas officiating. Music was provided by Brian Huffman, Steve Brown and Pat Young. Interment followed in the Copper Ridge Memory Gardens with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Ferrell Wood, Morty Wood, Tony Underwood, David Underwood, John McClure, Mike Fleeman, Kevin Brown and Jonathan Crumly. The following gentlemen were selected to serve as honorary pallbearers: Deacons of First Baptist Church, of Blue Ridge, Eddy Patrick, Doug Vaughn and Jimmy Boling.
