Kathleen Hughes Arp, 95, of McCaysville, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2021.
She was born November 9, 1925, in Copperhill to the late Arlin Jack Hughes, Sr. and Gertrude Freeman Hughes.
Kathleen was an active member of the First Baptist Church of McCaysville. She was a member of the Faith Sunday School Class and also taught the Boys and Girls Sunday School Class for a number of years. She served in the church nursery whenever she was needed.
Kathleen also served in the Women’s Missionary Union, the Adult Choir and the Prime Time Choir.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob D. “Deb” Arp; sons, Robbie Desmond Arp and J. Richard Arp; brothers, A.J. Jack Hughes, Jr. and Travis Ray Hughes; and son-in-law, Doug Akins.
Kathleen is survived by her daughters, Melba Akins of Blue Ridge, and Marsha (Doug) Davenport of Epworth, Georgia; grandchildren, Dorinda (Dwayne) Cobb, Chet (Laurie) Akins, Amanda Thomas, Jacob (Julie) Arp, Abigail Arp, Grace Arp, Roxanne (Ryan) Zaideman, Nathan Davenport and Alexis (Donavan) Reddin; great-grandchildren, Blythe Dawson, Trudy Cobb, Blake Cobb, Claire Cobb, Ashley (Marty) Prince, Amelia Akins, Olivia Akins, C.J. Akins, Jack Dlugokinski, Jade Dlugokinski, Ryles Thomas, Kameron Arp, Zachary Sexton, Ava Arp, Satch Zaideman, Tate Zaideman, Kristin (Jesse) Hunt, Kaitlyn Davenport, Corbin Davenport, Lyla Reddin and Connor Reddin; and great-great grandchildren, Molly Prince, Jaycee Hunt, Dexter Dawson, Emma Prince and Klay Hunt.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, January 16, at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of McCaysville/Copperhill with Pastor Matthew McDaniel and Rev. Harry Gilbert officiating.
Music was provided by Katie Gilbert, Melba Akins, Ed Vest and Clarence Burlingame.
Interment followed in the Crestlawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chet Akins, Nathan Davenport, Jacob Arp, Dan Hughes, Blake Cobb, Corbin Davenport, Jack Dlugokinski and C.J. Akins.
