Joshua “Josh” Waters, age 82, of Copperhill passed away Friday, January 15, 2021, at the Union General Hospital in Blairsville, Georgia. 

He was born February 18, 1938, in Copperhill, Tennessee to the late Martin Luther Waters and Zella Allen Waters. 

Josh worked for 28 years and retired in 1984 from Tennessee Chemical Company as a timber foreman. He was an active member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Tumbling Creek. He was the community veterinarian, loved gardening, horseback riding, hunting and fishing. 

Josh was no stranger to hard work, knowledgeable beyond compare and could do a little bit of everything. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joshua Scott Waters; and siblings, Myrtle O’Neal, James Waters, Luke Waters, Joe Waters, John Henry Waters, Willard Waters and Ernie Waters.

Survivors are his wife of 63 years, Aletha Ann Waters of Copperhill; son, Daren Lee Waters of Copperhill; grandchildren, Ashley Falls (Josh) and Jake Waters (Ansley); great-grandchildren, Carson Joshua Rehagen, Cannon Scott Rehagen, Caleb Paul Rehagen, Ada Ruth Waters and Emmett Blake Waters; brothers, Charles Waters, Wendel Waters and George Waters; daughter-in-law, Jan Russell Benefield; “loving” sister-in-law, Eileen Lowery; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, January 22, 2021, at 2 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home of Copperhill Chapel with Rev. Gary Waters officiating. Matthew Deal read the obituary. Music was by Rev. Kenny O’Neal and Dennis Barnes. 

Interment followed in the Grassy Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Allen, Alex Deal, Rev. Clifton Patterson, Johnny Wilson, Andy Waters, Brad Waters, Rev. Kenny Housley and Dakota Harris. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Waters, Eric Waters, Nathan Henderson, B.J. Howard, Sydney “Jr.” Freeman, Richard Deal, Carlton Deal, Randy Deal, Leroy Deal, Rev. Jimmy Payne, Little Lloyd Payne, Rusty Boggs, Cota Talley, Timothy Talley, Lucas Lowery, Tyler Allen, Nate Allen, Jody Smith, Mark Raper and Jeff Waters. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grassy Creek Cemetery Fund at 135 Tallent Road, Copperhill, TN 37317.
