Mr. James Phillip Sheffer, age 86, of Copperhill, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2021.
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on September 13, 1934, to the late Charles B. Sheffer and Anna Marie Staab Sheffer. James was a member of First United Methodist Church of Copperhill. James served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He retired from the Tennessee Chemical Company, where he was Director of Purchasing for many years. James was a member of the American Legion, the Copperhill Chamber of Commerce, the National Purchasing Association and served as President of the Board of Directors for the Ducktown Basin Museum. James is preceded in death by his parents; and son, Phillip Sheffer.
James is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley Flynt Sheffer; daughters and sons-in-law, Christina and Garry Wingo and Suzanne and Retired Colonel Ed Lowe; daughter-in-law, Jodie Sheffer; grandchildren, Amanda (Christopher) Bogue, Sarah (Travis) Miller, Robyn Lowe and Reece Sheffer; great-grandson, Ethan Champion; brother, Charles G. Sheffer; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends also survive.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, September 6, 2021, at 3 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with James Flynt officiating.
Interment followed in the Copper Ridge Memorial Gardens. Full military honors were provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Reece Sheffer and Ethan Champion were pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Garry Wingo, Retired Colonel Ed Lowe, Christopher Bogue and Travis Miller.
