James Elvin Deal, age 75, of Copperhill, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021, at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
He was born January 6, 1946, in Copperhill, to the late Elvin Woodrow Deal and Artie Lucille Carpenter Deal. James served his country in the United States Army as a member of the Second Armored Division during the Vietnam Era. He also proudly served his community working as a police officer, EMT and firefighter in the Polk County and Fannin County areas.
James was a lifetime member of East Polk Fire and Rescue and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was of Baptist faith as a member of Mount View Baptist Church and a member of the Ducktown Lodge #241 F&AM. James is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles Edward Deal; and sisters, Margaret Jean Jones and Wanda Louise Moreau.
James is survived by his wife, Berniece A. Deal of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Rebekah Deal of Turtletown; grandson, Nathaniel Elvin Deal of Copperhill; and sister, Betty Sue Locke of Copperhill.
Graveside services were held Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. from Mt. View Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. David O’Neal officiating.
Masonic rites were given by Ducktown Lodge #241 F&AM. Military honors were provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard, and a Fireman’s Last Call was given by East Polk Fire and Rescue.
