Mr. Gordon Alfred Hewett age 79 of Rising Fawn Road, Mineral Bluff passed away Thursday January 20, 2022, in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness.

Mr. Hewett was born  September 12, 1942, in Sydney Australia the son of the late Alfred Hewett and the late Ida May Moss Hewett.

Gordon was retired from a long career at The Coca-Cola Company and in retirement loved helping others volunteering with several local organizations including the Project Chimps organization and Georgia Mountain Research and Education Council (GMREC) just to name a few. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He was preceded in death by a brother, Colin Hewett, of Queensland, Australia. Mr. Hewett was a member of the Church of England.

Surviving Mr. Hewett are his loving wife and best friend of fifty-five years, Kay Southwell Hewett of Mineral Bluff; two sons and a daughter in law, Brendon and Susie Hewett of Sydney, Australia, Shannon Hewett of Canberra, New South Wales, Australia; a brother and sister-in-law, Allen and Glenda Hewett of Sydney; a sister, Dianne Ponder and sister-in-law Arianna Hewett both of Queensland, Australia; and six grandchildren Jye, Marley, Jessica, Cameron, Ignatius and Matilda. Several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Australia.

In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to Project Chimps in Gordon’s memory.

Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements.
