Geraldine Kantner Jones, of Blue Ridge, passed away November 6, 2021, at the age of 90.

Gerrie was born August 21, 1931, in Hamburg, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Westhampton College at the University of Richmond, where she met her late husband, Hervey. They were married June 9, 1956, at Saint Giles Presbyterian Church and raised their family in Richmond, Virginia. Gerrie had a passion for reading and teaching. She was a high school Latin teacher and a Bible study teacher at church.

She and Hervey were ordained Elders in the Presbyterian Church and lived out their faith in service to others. Gerrie and Hervey retired to Blue Ridge in 1991 and became active members of the community through Habitat for Humanity, Christian Learning Center, Family Connection, Snack in a Backpack, the local food bank and community garden. They were founding members of Faith Presbyterian Church. Gerrie was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Hervey Strader Jones; and her sisters, Marjorie Snader and Patricia Knick.

Survivors include daughter, Anne J. (David) Dantzler; sons, Lewis I. Jones and Franklin S. Jones; and grandchildren, James D. Dantzler III, Robert A. Dantzler, Patrick C. Dantzler and John I. Jones II; and great-grandchildren, Aiden Dantzler and Vincent Dantzler.

A memorial service will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church Saturday, December 11, 2021, with interment at 10:30 a.m. in the Memorial Garden followed by a celebration of Gerrie’s life and Witness to the Resurrection at 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Gerrie’s memory to Faith Presbyterian Church, Snack in a Backpack or Family Connection.
