Eva Monica Stecher Garrett, age 67, of McCaysville, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2021.

She was born October 31, 1953, in Buffalo, New York, to the late Donald Stecher and Gisela Holzwarth Stecher. Eva was raised in Sarasota, Florida, and moved to the McCaysville area 45 years ago. She retired from BB&T Bank and recently worked for IGA Hometown Foods and Quinn’s Greenhouse and Nursery. 

Eva was a loving sister and a kind and generous person. She will be remembered for her upbeat, friendly spirit. She was an avid gardener. She loved warm weather, the ocean and sunbathing. She loved the Atlanta Braves and NASCAR.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 37 years, Jerry Garrett; and her brother, Edward Stecher.

Eva is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Kevin and Monica Stecher; sister-in-law, Janice Stecher; nieces, nephews, and their spouses, Andrea and Ashley Exley, Justin and Leighann Stecher and Heidi Stecher; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Caleb Exley, Savannah Exley and Hayes Stecher.

Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, May 15, 2021, at 3 p.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rusty Thomas officiating. Music will be provided by Jerry Cureton. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, May 15, 2021, from 1 p.m. until the service hour of 3 p.m.. Due to the ongoing health crisis, masks will be required and those in attendance are encouraged to practice social distancing.
