Ernest Jones

Ernest Jones, age 82, of Epworth, passed away Friday, August 27, 2021, at the Sonshine Manor Personal Care Home in Blairsville, Georgia.

He was born November 8, 1938, in the Higdon Community to the late Mark Jones and Lela Foster Jones. Ernest retired from Tennessee Chemical Company as a miner and later worked as a builder. He was a member at Sugar Creek Baptist Church but had attended Mount Moriah Baptist Church for 30 years. Ernest served in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Jo Jones; and daughter, Cheri Jones.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Honorable Brian Jones (Angela), of Epworth; grandchildren, Justin Payne, Zachery Jones and Josh Jones; great-grandchildren, Kyle Jones and Jacie Jones; and, brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert Jones (Brenda), of Blue Ridge, and Kenneth Jones (Brenda), of Blue Ridge; sisters, Ruth Gwin of Cornersville, Tennessee, and Jo Jones, of Blue Ridge.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, August 30, 2021, at 11 a.m. from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Delmar Davenport and Rev. Jerry Banks officiating. Music was provided by his nieces and nephews.

Interment followed in the Sugar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Military Honors were provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Pallbearers were Justin Payne, Josh Jones, Zachery Jones, Kyle Jones, Todd Pack and Honorable Brian Jones.

The family received friends at the funeral home Sunday, August 29, 2021, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.
