Dorothy Mae Smith, age 87, of Morganton, passed away June 4, 2021, at her home.
Mrs. Smith was born March 12, 1934, in Mineral Bluff, to the late Henry Clay Wright and the late Thelma Imogene Wright. A member of Morganton Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Smith; son, Daniel Smith; and daughters, Cynthia Louise Roper and Linda Gibson.
Dorothy was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren. She will be missed by her family and all her friends.
Survivors include son, Eugene (Barbara) Smith Jr.; daughter, Becky Dorene (Robert) Peardon; sister, Dorene Boyles; brothers, Dennis Wright, Donald Wright, Dean (Sandy) Wright and Doug (Beth) Wright; grandchildren, Daniel Roper, Jennifer Ray, Janna Ledbetter, Jason Foster, Chad Smith, Joshua Smith, Travis Smith, Jeffery Gibson, Ashley Gibson, Caleb Gibson, Matthew Peardon and Lamar Peardon; 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 6, 2021, at 3 p.m. at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home of Blue Ridge with the Rev Eric Kincaid officiating. Music was provided by Debra Cochran.
Interment followed in New Hope Cemetery in Morganton. Pallbearers were Daniel Roper, Chad Smith, Joshua Smith, Jeffery Gibson, Caleb Gibson, Matthew Peardon, Lamar Peardon and Dylan Ray. Honorary pallbearers were Travis Smith, Chad Ray and Jason Foster.
The family received friends at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home of Blue Ridge, Sunday, June 6, 2021, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
