Shane Adrian Derreberry, affectionately known as “Dewey,” passed away March 29, 2021, at age 14.
He was a student at Fannin County Middle School and a member of the Fannin County Middle School football team. He was an energetic, loving, hugging, young man who always had a smile on his face. His personality was infectious, and he will be missed by so many in this community.
Dewey was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church and was preceded in death by his uncle, James “Jimbo” Penwell and sister, Brittney Riden.
Survivors include his parents, William and Cynthia Stewart; siblings, James Penwell, Dawson Stewart, Ava Ivey, Jacob Greene, Olivia Greene, Ashley Stewart and Kimberly Stewart; nieces and nephews, Barron Hamilton, Caroline Hamilton, Jayci Riden and Berkley Riden; birth mother, Jennifer Greene; several aunts and uncles; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 8, 2021, at 11 a.m. from the Calvary Chapel Blue Ridge Church with Pastor Jim Kroninger officiating. An eulogy will be provided by Chad Reece.
Interment will follow in the O’Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Kiley Brown, Jeremy Twiggs, Joey O’Neal, Nathan Dean, Wesley Simonton, Chad Reece and James Penwell serving as pallbearers. Teammates of the Fannin County Middle School Football team will serve as an honorary escort.
