Betty Jean Tarpley, age 71, of Mineral Bluff, passed away Saturday, December 11, 2021, at her home.
She was born March 7, 1950, in McCaysville to the late Wendell Garfield Cross and Eula Mae Roberson Cross. Betty Jean worked for Levi Strauss and Company as an inspector. She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, of Hardscrabble Road, Mineral Bluff. Betty Jean liked to paint, cook and quilt. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Reid Tarpley; and siblings, Mary Lou Dillard (LeRoy), Ruby Ann Cross, Winston Harold Cross, Ralph Cecil Cross and Delores Rose Cross.
Survivors are siblings, Jeanette Cross, Charles Ray Cross (Charlene), Randall Garfield Cross, Benny Joe Cross (Gay), Henry Lee Cross and Bill Jeffrey Cross (Hazel); nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends also survive.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at noon from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Garren and Rev. Doyle Davis officiating. Music was provided by Ed Vest.
Interment followed in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Copperhill. Pallbearers were Zeke Henson, J.D. Long, Sir John Davis, Jay Tolbert, Bobby Johnson and Logan Davis.
