Arlene Newman

Arlene Helton Newman, age 86, of Ducktown, passed away Monday, April 12, 2021, at Kennestone Hospital. 

Mrs. Newman was born March 28, 1935, in Isabella, Tennessee, to the late Ralph Kermit Helton and the late Montie Pauline Standridge Helton. She was a member of McCaysville Church of God and was a retired minister and member of the United Christian Church and Ministerial Association. The association was established and chartered in 1956 in Cleveland, Tennessee, by Rev. H. Richard Hall; the association was formed to unite ministers of different fundamental and Pentecostal churches. It is an intra-church organization. 

Arlene loved going to church, reading the Bible and singing. She was devoted to ministering and counseling people. She was very active with her nursing home ministry and volunteering at the Food Bank, where she also did counseling. She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Kermit Helton; mother, Montie Pauline Standridge Helton; husband, Dewey Newman, Jr.;  stepson, Doug Newman; brother, Truman Helton; and sister, Helen Helton Lewis.

Survivors include her twin sister, Marlene Helton Davis; sister, Shirley Parris; brother, Jimmy K. Helton; brother, Rex Tyson Helton; sister, Susan Robinson; and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services were held Friday, April 16, 2021, at 2 p.m. at the McCaysville Church of God with Pastor Steve Lamb, Minister Kermit Heath Davis, Rev. Dwight and Rev. Birtie Hensley officiating. Jimmy Helton sang “I Give God All the Glory” written by Arlene’s great uncle, Rev. Robert Bell, and congregational music was led by Dewayne Housley. Her nephews served as pallbearers. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers were Pete Davis, Jimmy Davis and Mark Holder. 

Interment followed in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery with graveside services conducted by Rev. Jerry Morrow. 

Arrangements were entrusted to the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home of McCaysville.
