Wrestlers advance

The Fannin County Wrestling team punched their ticket to the AA Elite Eight by defeating Washington County and Vidalia Saturday, January 14.

The Rebels swept Washington County 84 to 0.

Matthew Crowder, Logan Long, Blake Summeres, Thomas Golden, Taylor Collis, Carson Collis, Drake Cantrell, Colby Shaw, Corbin Davenport and Christen Newberry all won their match by pin earning six points each for the Rebels. Cooper Moreland, Finn Thorenson and Jackson Mercer won their matches by forfeit also earning six points each for the Rebels securing their big victory over Washington.

During the matches against Vidalia, the Rebels put up 47 points to their 26.

C. Collis, Davenport, Crowder and T. Collis all won with a pin for six points each. Shaw and Landon Poole won by points to put up three points each for the Rebels. Summers, Moreland and Golden won by forfeit to secure a Rebel win and a ticket to the AA Elite Eight for the second year in a row.

Head Coach Chuck Patterson said he is “super proud of these guys for qualifying for the Elite Eight two years in a row. It is a testament to their hard work and dedication.

He continued with, “We still have a lot of wrestling to do this weekend. We finished fourth as a dual team last season and our guys have been hungry for 365 days to get another shot at this thing!”

The Rebels wrestling team will travel to Jeff Davis High School Saturday, January 21.
