The Fannin County Lady Rebel softball team put on a scoring clinic Thursday, September 9, when they hung 14 runs to claim a 14-4 victory over the Towns County Lady Indians.
Riley Davis, Zoe Putnam, Jaylen Green, Natalie Herendon, Chelsey Frye and Jayden Bailey got one hit each in the game, while Aaleyah Rogers had two hits.
Josilynn Newton had pitching duties to start the game as she threw three innings and collected two strikeouts. Bailey came on in relief pitching two innings.
Neither team could cross home plate in the first inning as the Lady Rebels batted in the top of the second. Rogers led off with a single, but the Lady Indians got a double play on the next play for two quick outs.
Frye was hit by a pitch and Bailey singled to put Lady Rebel runners on the corners. Frye later scored on a passed ball to give Fannin a 1-0 lead in the game.
Towns County could not score in the bottom of the second as Fannin clung to a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Rebels padded their lead in the top of the third inning as Aidyn Patterson, Rogers and Callie Ensley crossed home plate for a 4-0 lead.
Towns County quickly sliced into Fannin’s lead in the bottom of the third inning scoring three runs before the Lady Rebels could get off of the field.
With Fannin leading 4-3, the Lady Rebels erupted for 10 runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Davis and Putnam scored twice in the inning, while Green, Rogers, Patterson, Herendon and Ensley crossed home plate once each.
The Lady Rebels held Towns County scoreless in the bottom of the fourth as they led 14-3.
Fannin could not score in the top of the fifth, but the Lady Rebels held the Lady Indians to one run in the bottom of the fifth as the game was called 14-4 in favor of the Lady Rebels.
