The Fannin County High School (FCHS) track teams are off to a hot start as four school records have been broken within the first two meets.
Head Coach Miranda Roof says she is “so proud of the athletes and the coaches for how hard they are working this season!”
This season’s male runners have broken two school records. Sophomore Zechariah Prater broke the school record for the 3,200 meter clocking in at 10 minutes and 38 seconds, winning first place at the opening meet at Gilmer County High School Wednesday, February 16.
Just two weeks later, Prater cut his time by two seconds setting the new record at 10 minutes and 36 seconds, earning another first place win at Lassiter High School.
Prater along with Riley Angel, Jack Kantner and Hayden Lynch broke the school record for the 4x400 relay that same meet at Lassiter High School with the time of three minutes and 46 seconds.
The women’s runners have also broken a relay record for the 4x800 race. At the opening meet, Lindsey Holloway, Caylee Gaddis, Monica Consentino and Kinsley Sullivan set the new school record for the 4x800 with the time of 11 minutes and 41 seconds.
The school record for shot put has also been broken this season. Senior Dylan Collins threw for 42 feet and seven inches, setting the record at Lassiter High School, Wednesay, March second.
Throwing Coach Jeff Kuna says that newcoming seniors Dylan Collins, Seth Reece and Ricardo Arellenes as well as returning junior Matthew Crowder have been “instrumental to the success of the team.”
The team is also coached by Throwing Coach Jeff Kuna, Middle and Long Distance Coach Lucas Roof, Jumping and Hurdling Coach Chad Galloway and Short Distance Coach Hannah Godfrey.
The next track meet will be at Dawson County High School March 22.
The next home meet will be March 29 at 4 p.m. at the Fannin County High School football stadium.
