Tennis teams post region win

The Fannin County High School (FCHS) Tennis teams earned a region win last Thursday, March 10 against Chattooga.

The men’s team won five to zero. Hunter Satterfield eight to two. The other four matches were forfeited, earning the team four more points. The men’s team is now 2-0 in region play.

The women’s team won three to two. Anna Beth Minear won her singles match six to two and six to one.

Olivia McAllister won her singles match six to zero and six to two. Makena Hill fought a hard match six to eight and six to two. Addison McDermott won eight to zero in an exhibition match as well. Cabella Hughes and Kendra Newman won in their doubles match six to three and six to zero.

Mckenzie Chastain and Morgan Craine fell short, losing in their doubles match. The women’s team is now 1-1 in the region.

Just the week before, the FCHS men’s tennis team defeated region opponent Coosa High School, outscoring the Eagles four to one at their match Tuesday, March 1. Sam Jabley, Will Jones, and Gavin Mowery each won their match in the singles division. Luke Pelfrey and Satterfield earned second place for the doubles division. For the women’s team, Minear won her singles match as well.

Previous game scores are as follows: February 15 against Lumpkin County; boys lost one to four, girls lost zero to five.

Jabley won his singles match. February 28 vs. Gilmer County; boys lost one to four, girls lost one to four. Jabaley and McAllister each won their singles match.

The tennis team is coached by Head Coach Suzianne Pass who is assisted by Mark Miller.

The next match will be Tuesday, March 15, at FCHS at 4 p.m. against Woody Gap followed by a match Monday, March 21, at FCHS  at 4 p.m. against region opponent Gordon Central.
