The Fannin County Rebels basketball team earned the title of tournament runners up when they fell short 63-52 against Gilmer County, Saturday, December 21, in the Piedmont Mountainside tournament.
Kolton Kaylor and Hudson Ethington both lead with 11 points each.
Despite getting out to a 31-28 lead at halftime, the Rebels couldn’t hold on to the lead for the victory.
As a whole, the Rebels controlled the paint, grabbing 27 rebounds. Kaylor led the team with eight rebounds. The Rebels passed the ball well with 11 assists on 20 made baskets. Kaylor led the team with five assists. Fannin also blocked three shots in the game as a team.
Rebel scorers were Kaylor and Ethington with 11 points, Brody Henson scoring 10 points, Keaton Watkins and Matthew Ponton adding seven points and Jack Sparks scoring six.
Kaylor scores 21 in victory
The Fannin County Rebels defeated Lumpkin County, 51-33, Friday, December 20, in the Piedmont Mountainside tournament as Kolton Kaylor scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
The Rebels played well in the first quarter, outscoring Lumpkin County 10-4 and got out to a 25-15 lead at halftime before closing out the victory. Leading 27-21 in the third, the Rebels went on a 9-point run to pull further away.
As a team, the Rebels controlled the paint, grabbing 32 rebounds. Kaylor led the team with 12 rebounds. Kaylor also hit three threes for the Rebels. Fannin passed the ball well with 13 assists on 21 made baskets and blocked three shots in the game.
Kolton Kaylor scored 21 points, Keaton Watkins added 11 points, Hudson Ethington put up six points, Jack Sparks and Brody Henson both added four points, Matthew Ponton scored three points and Avery Angel added two points to contribute to the Rebel win.
