The Fannin County High School softball team won the nail-biter against the Murray County Indians in overtime 11 to 10 Tuesday, September 27.
The first inning was scoreless as both teams fought for three quick outs.
Jayden Bailey started the second with a single, then she stole second. Chelsey Frye was hit by a pitch to advance to first. Joselyn Wood walked moving everyone forward. Then, Bailey scored on a passed ball. No one else scored before the third out.
Murray answered with a run of their own in the second inning. Natalie Herendon was able to catch one out and strike out another while Danielle Walden caught the other.
Aaleyah Rogers hit a single to make it to first base and then was able to steal second. Herendon followed that with a double that allowed Rogers to make it to home plate. Zoe Putnam doubled and was able to send Herendon’s courtesy runner, Aidyn Patterson, home for another run. Bailey hit another double for the Lady Rebels, but Putnam got held up at third. Sydney German hit a hard single, and Putnam scored while Bailey advanced to third. Wood’s hit sent Bailey home and German to third. Makayla Stiles hit a ground ball and, with an error by the Indians, German scored and Wood made it to third base. Stiles stole second before Callie Ensley singled bringing Wood home and Stiles to third. Six Lady Rebels would round home plate before three outs making the score seven to one to end the top of the third.
The Indians only made one run for the third inning. Herendon caught one out and struck out the second, and Putnam snagged the third.
The Lady Rebels offensive momentum came to a halt in the fourth, and they were not able to get any run while Murray was able make two.
The fifth inning remained scoreless for both teams leaving the score seven to four.
The Lady Rebels earned two runs in the sixth. Herendon singled, and Chrislyn Odom was brought in as a courtesy runner. Bailey was hit by a pitch after the first out. She went to first base, and Odom advanced to second. After the next out, Frye’s double brought Odom home, and Bailey was held up at third. She was able to score on a passed ball the next play and Frye advanced to third the same play. She wasn’t able to make it home before the third out.
Murray began to close the gap with three runs in the sixth inning that put the score at nine to seven.
Ensley was able to add one run to the Lady Rebels’ total during the seventh inning, but Murray fought back and tied the game up.
During the overtime inning, Frye was able to score on an error adding the only point made for the inning.
Ensley caught the first out and Herendon grounded the next two to secure the win for the Lady Rebels.
After this game, the Lady Rebels are 6-5 in Region 7AA and will begin state playoffs Tuesday, October 18.
