Lady Rebels post 9-5 win over Murray

Fannin County’s Lady Rebels softball team earned another region win against Murray County Thursday, August 25.

The Lady Rebels started off hot with three quick outs, one of those a strike out. Natalie Herendon started as pitcher.

Callie Ensley hit a triple with the first at bat, followed with a walk by Aaleyah Rogers. Herendon hit a double which gave Ensley and Rogers enough time to find home plate scoring two runs for Fannin. Sydney German tripled on a fly ball giving Herendon’s courtesy runner Kea time to score. Jayden Bailey hit another triple and German found home. After an out, Joselyn Wood hit a double, and Bailey scored. This was followed by two outs.

Then, Herendon snagged a ground ball from the pitcher’s circle followed by another out. After a walk and a stolen base,  Haralson got a base hit and sent a player to home plate making the score five to one. The Lady Rebels answered with another strike out to end the top of the second.

Makayla Stiles, Ensley and Roger’s hits were all caught out, and the defense took back over. After a walk and a single play, Murray added two more runs to their total. Fannin caught two outs directly after.

At the bottom of the third, Herendon hit a double followed by two outs. Bailey hit a single and found home after Wood’s base hit making the score six to three. Another out sent Fannin’s defense back on the field to end the third inning.

Herendon struck out the first two batters, and the Lady Rebels fielded the next hit for a quick three outs. Zoe Putnam made a hit followed by Enlsey. Then, Rogers was walked. Herendon made a hit to centerfield and allowed Putnam to score.

After three outs, Murray County got up to bat. They scored two runs during the fifth inning. The Lady Rebels answered with two runs of their own by Bailey and Noley Nations as a courtesy runner for Chelsey Frye to end the fifth.

The last two innings went scoreless for both teams making the final score nine to five for a Fannin County win.

The Lady Rebels will continue region play Tuesday, August 30 at Rockmart High School at 5 p.m.
