The Fannin County High School (FCHS) women’s soccer team clinched the first seed and earned the title of 7-AA Region Champions with a victory over Dade County, Friday, April 9.
The first half of the match started slowly for the Lady Rebels and Dade County was up one to zero at halftime.
However, the second half started hot as Kinlsey Sullivan, assisted by Annabel Lillard, scored the first Fannin County goal.
As the clock rolled under three minutes, the contest remained tied, until Stephanie Kirk scored the second and last goal of the match.
Defensively, the Lady Rebels battled for a combined 34 steals and two saves.
Senior Hannah McSwain led the team with six defensive steals.
Hannah Sosebee and Madison Ponton both fought for five defensive steals each.
Lillard had four defensive steals and Sullivan and Aaliyah Green both came up with three defensive steals.
Kirk, Mazie Goble, Karmah Eaton and Cali Tuggle had two defensive steals each.
Goalkeeper Rachael Jessen had two saves to keep Dade off the scoreboard.
The FCHS Lady Rebels will host Haralson County High School in the first round of the state playoff Thursday, April 14 at 5:30 p.m.
Fanninn County ended regular season competition with a 14-1 overall record and 11-1 region mark.
