The Fannin County High School (FCHS) cross country team travelled to Carrollton Saturday, September 10, to compete in the Carrollton Orthopaedic Invitational.
It was another wet day on the race course for both teams.
The girls’ team ran first with 179 athletes. Lindsey Holloway earned a medal by finishing in seventh place. Karli Sams came in 34th, Kristin Cipich placed 55th, Olivia Temples placed 2nd, Jaclynn Cracknel came in at 131st and Jordon Golden rounded out the team in 155th place. Overall, they finished in tenth place out of 22 schools.
For the boys, there were four runners who stuck together for half of the race. One of those runners was Fannin County’s Zechariah Prater. He would make his move on the down slope taking the lead for the first time, but with less than a half a mile to go, Prater would lose the lead and finish at a close second.
There were 242 runners competing in the boys’ division. Gavin Davis placed 27th, Benjamin Bloch placed 50th, followed closely by Luke Callihan in 51st place. The boys’ team didn’t have enough athletes to compete as a team but ran the race anyway as this will be the course the teams will run for the state competition.
They will race again Thursday, September 15, at the Dragon Invitational.
