Fannin weightlifters head to state competition

    Fannin County High School hosted the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association (GACA) Area 5 Weight Lifting Competition and the Rebel weightlifters showed up and showed out. The team placed first in the competition over teams from Pepperell, Habersham, Lafayette, Ridgeland and Lumpkin.

    Senior Andrew Waldrep earned the “Most Weight Lifted in Competition” title along with first place in his weight class.

    Many other Fannin athletes placed first in their respective weight class. Theses included: Carson Callihan, Clay Heaton, Bryson Holloway and Cade Sands.

    Other Rebel medalists included: Jacob Dye, Drake Cantrell, Davis Tankersley, Brayden Turner, Jeremy Tammen, Nate Maloof, Logan Long, Cooper Born, Lawson Sullivan, Samuel McGill and Elijah Weaver.

    In the girls division, Fannin County lifters Zoe Putnam and Sydney Chancey placed in the top three of their respective weight classes.

    The medalists will travel to Heard County to attend the GACA State Weight Lifting Competition Saturday, March 11.
