The Fannin County High School track and field athletes traveled to Gordon Central High School for the Region 7AA meet Monday, April 25, and Tuesday, April 26. Fannin had 21 athletes qualify for the State Sectionals meet Saturday, May 6, at Rockmart High School. Head Coach Miranda Roof said, “This is a huge accomplishment because only the top four athletes in each event get the opportunity to continue.”
The female athletes that will advance in their respective event(s) are as follows:
Reigan O’Neal with a second place finish in the long jump and pole vault and a third place finish in high jump, Natalie Herendon with a third place finish in shot put, the 4x800 meter relay team of Carlee Holloway, Lindsey Holloway, Ava Acker and Karli Sams with a first place finish, the 4x200 meter relay team of C. Holloway, O’Neal, Caylee Gaddis and Acker with a second place finish, Acker with a third place finish in the 400 meter dash, C. Holloway with a fourth place finish in the 300 meter hurdles, Sams with a second place finish in the 800 meter run and a third place finish in the 1600 meter race, L. Holloway with a first place finish in the 1600 and 3200 meter races and a third place finish in the 800 meter run
The male athletes that will advance in their respective event(s) are as follows:
Matthew Crowder with first place finishes in shot put and discus, Michael Stephens with a third place high jump finish, Nate Smith with a fourth place finish in long jump, Corbin Davenport with a first place finish in the pole vault, Tyler Stevenson with a second place finish in the pole vault, the 4x800 relay team of Bill Stiles, Smith, Gage Bryan, and Braxton Cheatham with a second place finish, the relay team of Andrew Waldrep, Jack Kantner, Davenport, and Stevenson with a third place in the 4x200 meter relay and fourth place finish in the 4x100 meter relay, the 4x400 meter relay team of Bryan, Lawson Sullivan, Stiles and Stephens with a fourth place finish, Cheatham with a third place finish in the 400 meter dash, Grayson Willis with a first place finish in the 110 meter hurdles and a third place finish in the 300 meter hurdles, Waldrep with a third place finish in the 110 meter hurdles, Zechariah Prayer with second place finishes in the 800 meter run, 1600 meter run and the 3200 meter run, and Luke Callihan with a fourth place finish in the 3200 meter run.
Overall, both the boys and girls teams placed third in Region 7AA behind Model and Rockmart.
