Fannin sees season end with pair of playoff losses

The Fannin County High School Rebels baseball team wrapped up their season in the GHSA state playoff match up against the Fellowship Christian School Paladins Monday, April 24, with two losses of 2-5 and 0-2.

During the first game, the Rebels were off to a slow start. The Paladins clinched an early lead with a run in the first inning. The Rebels wouldn’t put up a point until the fourth inning to get tied up with Fellowship. Rebel Colton Gray made the run from Clay Heaton’s single to left field.

Fellowship answered quickly in the fifth inning earning four runs before the Rebels found three outs.

Fannin fought for one more run by Lawson Sullivan in the final inning, but after three outs, it was too late for the Rebels.

Gavin Davis started on the mound for the Rebels pitching four innings and facing 19 batters. Bristol Hughes finished out the game throwing for two innings and facing eight Paladin batters.

The second game saw the same fate for the Rebels. Fellowship took two runs in the first inning. After those runs, no one else would score during the remaining sixth innings.

Gaige Foster took the challenge on the mound pitching all seven innings. He faced 29 Fellowship Christian batters only allowing four hits.

Head Coach Travis Stone said, “We had our ups and downs this year, however these young men kept showing up everyday to go to work and continued to improve.”

He continued with, “We played 14 games against Top Ten opponents, and we showed up to compete in each one of them. The four seniors that are moving on from this program have definitely left their mark and has the program trending upwards to a very talented future.”
