Eli White setting baseball pace

Copper Basin High School senior student athlete Eli White has made his mark on Tennessee High School baseball with the  batting average of .667, which is first in all classifications in Tennessee. He is also tied for fifteenth in the United States.

White currently holds the top spot for his current on-base average at .725, which is also first in all classifications in Tennessee and twenty-fifth in the United States.

White said, “I don’t really know how I got here; I just watch the ball and swing the bat.”

Copper Basin baseball head coach Jeremy Locke said, “Eli is as solid a hitter as you will find. Those around the baseball program at Basin expected him to have this kind of season. In fact, only a cold streak when he was breaking in a new bat last season kept his average lower, and he still batted above .430. He has an aggressive, yet efficient swing that helps him catch up to the fastest pitchers. He also has tremendous patience at the plate.”

Locke continued by describing White as “an old school natural who loves the game, and it shows in everything he does in baseball. We’re proud of him and are blessed to have him as one of the leaders of our team.”

White credits Coach Locke as well as Logan Revell, Rusty Boggs and Todd Rollins for helping him get to where he is today saying, “They have all made suggestions that have helped me improve my batting skills and have encouraged me to do my best.”

The most important coach to White is his mother, Carrie White. “She is the one who taught me how to bat without raising my foot, which keeps me balanced and helps me make contact against fast pitching,” White finished.
