The Fannin County High School flag football team scored two wins Thursday October 30 at home against Rome and Ringgold.
“Our girls kicked off region play with two big wins. We started the day against Rome and battled hard to come away with the victory. Then we faced Ringgold and kept the momentum going for another strong win. The girls played very, very hard and showed incredible determination and heart from start to finish. I couldn’t be prouder of how they competed,” Head Coach Dawson King said.
Against Rome, the Lady Rebels came away with the win 13-6. The first half was a back-and-forth contest. Ringgold scored first and led at halftime 6-0.
Fannin’s first score came in the third quarter. Fannin’s Bridgett Allen intercepted a Ringgold pass and returned it 16 yards to give Fannin the ball on Rome’s 36 yard line. Annaleigh Cheatham, Kendall Gaddis and Lynnex Patterson combined for yards before Gaddis connected with Patterson for a nine-yard touchdown. The game was tied at six apiece.
Fannin’s defense was solid the remainder of the game. After stopping Rome on a multi-play drive, Fannin took control on it’s own 32 yard line and two runs from Chatham and one from Gaddis were followed by a 26-yard touchdown pass from Gaddis to Patterson. An Allen interception followed to seal the win for the Rebels.
Against Ringgold, Fannin took control early.
In the first quarter, Fannin drove the ball 75 yards for the score with yardage from Cheatham of 16 yards, and six yards from Ayla Walton. The score came on a 45-yard pass from Gaddis to Patterson. Gaddis added the extra point to give Fannin the lead 7-0.
After Ringgold answered with a long touchdown pass, Fannin scored again on a 75-yard drive. With help from MacKenzie Duvall, the drive ended when Cheatham ran across the goal line for a five-yard touchdown. She also scored the extra point to give Fannin the lead 14-6.
Fannin increased it’s lead to 21-6 a few minutes later. Lexi Gravely caught a pass for 14 yards before Duvall caught a 41-yard pass from Gaddis for a touchdown. Lola Temples scored the extra point.
Ringgold scored again to make it 21-13, then Fannin completed the win with another long drive. Temples caught a seven-yard pass from Gaddis, then Walton caught a pass for 31 yards. Cheatham had an eight-yard reception before Temples caught a Gaddis pass for a 23-yard touchdown. Cheatham added the extra point.
