Braxton Cheatham of the Fannin County High School (FCHS) Track and Field team earned the number one spot on the Top 12 Spring Sports Athletes Countdown.
Cheatham became the first male track and field athlete in Fannin County High School history to make the podium and medal in four events at the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) State Championships.
He was the state champion in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.13, placed sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.40, placed sixth in the long jump with a time of 21-1.5, and ran the fourth leg (anchor leg) for the fourth place 4x400 meter relay team in a time of 50 seconds.
Cheatham was responsible for 21 points at the state championships, leading the FCHS Track and Field team.
Leading up to the state championships, Cheatham was responsible for 31 points at the 1A Division 1 Region 7 meet, again leading the boys team.
He was the Region Champion in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.47, placed third in the region in the long jump with a distance of 21-3.5, and finished fourth in the region in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.91.
He also ran the anchor leg for the Region Champion 4x400 meter relay team in 51 seconds.
