The Fannin County Lady Rebel softball team held the Pepperell Dragons to just one run in their region game Thursday, September 30. Unfortunately, the Lady Rebels could not score to tie the game or win, as Fannin fell to the Lady Dragons in a close 1-0 defeat.
Natalie Herendon started in the pitcher’s circle for the Lady Rebels, pitching six innings and striking out three batters.
Offensively, Herendon and Riley Davis had two hits each on three at bats, while Callie Ensley and Jaylen Green had one hit each.
Both teams played stellar defense to start the game, as both teams were gridlocked at 0-0 for the first, second and third innings. The Lady Dragons were able to get on base and work their way to home plate in the bottom of the fourth inning for one run, while holding Fannin County scoreless to jump out to a 1-0 lead.
The Lady Rebels came close to striking in the top of the seventh, as Ensley singled to get to first base. Aaleyah Rogers laid down a sacrifice bunt to push Ensley to second, and Green crushed a single to move Ensley to third. Third base is as far as Ensley would get, however, as Pepperell got the final out to end the inning and the game as the Lady Rebels fell 1-0 to the Lady Dragons.
