Fannin County Middle School students invite veterans and/or their families to share their stories November 14 and 15.
“A group of students is preparing a book for publication, ‘Untold Stories,’ that will be a collection of the accounts of family members and veterans during both war and peace time,” Assistant Principal Mark Young said. “The primary question to be answered is ‘How did service in our military affect you?’”
Young and a group of students entered their idea of a veterans book into ETC’s Ignite Grant contest last year. After deliberation, the grant board voted to award the school with the top prize of $10,000.
The project’s student Board of Directors hopes to provide every student at FCMS, every Fannin County school and every public library in the region with a copy of the book.
Those wishing to share their stories will meet in the school’s media center between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
“The purpose of the event is to allow veteran’s to sit down and tell stories that we can include in our future publication,” Assistant Principal Mark Young said. “Please come at your convenience ... and don’t forget to bring pictures!”
