Fannin County Public Works Director Zack Ratcliff said Fannin County is currently experiencing an issue with road signs being stolen.
In 2019, the county reported over 150 stolen road signs.
“Sign theft hinders emergency response to citizens in need for our EMS, Firefighters and Law Enforcement,” he said. “This is not a harmless prank; sign theft could contribute to injury or death in Fannin County.”
Ratcliff wants to remind the public that it is a crime to steal road signs and the theft is punishable by jail time, fines and community service.
According to Ratcliff, $8,000 per year of county tax dollars is spent to replace stolen road signs.
He urges those with information regarding stolen county road signs top contact Public Works at 706-632-5931.
