Adopt A Pet

Throughout 2019, Fannin County Animal Control took in 384 dogs. Owners reclaimed 142 dogs and 38 were adopted. Ninety-seven were transferred to Team Dahlonega while 17 went to Tri State Pet Rescue, 16 went to the Humane Society of Blue Ridge, 12 went to Homeward Bound Rescue and nine went to Katz and Dawgs Helping Hands.

Moving into 2020, in the past week, officers brought in 11 dogs. Two were adopted and six were reclaimed. Lucky Paws Rescue retrieved two as well.

Many pets rotate through the doors of Animal Control. Officers encourage pet owners to properly tag and identify pets to prevent them from being picked up unnecessarily. It is also advised to keep microchip information up to date.

The pups that do end up calling the facility their temporary home need volunteers to walk them and visit with them. Folks who want to help but can’t walk or visit can help in other ways and can make monetary donations, too.

Officers and volunteers alike hope folks may be willing to open their home and their hearts to the dogs in the facility.

Hours of operation at Animal Control are Monday - Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the facility. After hours the officers follow up with community concerns and respond to stray dog calls.

Anyone one interested in learning about the dogs, donating, volunteering or seeing if a lost family pet has been picked up may call 706-632-3845.
