The Fannin County Lady Rebels flag football team hosted the Dawson County Lady Tigers on a cool morning Saturday, October 23. The match-up was the semi-final round of the playoffs as the winner of the contest advanced to play Lumpkin County in the Super Bowl this weekend.
The Lady Rebels came out firing on all cylinders and was able to top the Lady Tigers 33-6 to punch their ticket to the Super Bowl.
Fannin got the ball to start the game with Ryann King, Gracelyn Gray, and Braylee Davenport carrying the ball to keep Fannin’s offense on the field. King was able to find the endzone on the next play to give Fannin a 6-0 lead after the failed extra point.
Dawson got the ball, but the Lady Rebel defense halted the Lady Tigers and forced a punt.
Gray broke off a big run, followed by Bailee Rhodes to put Fannin at the six-yard line where Gray ran it in on the next play for a touchdown. After the good extra point, Fannin led 13-0 with 11:15 to go in the first half.
Dawson got the ball back and made things interesting as they found the endzone to slice the Lady Rebels lead 13-6. The Lady Tigers' momentum was halted shortly after, however, as King broke off a huge run for a touchdown to put the Lady Rebels up 20-6 to take the game to halftime.
Dawson could not generate any more scores in the game as Gray scored on a six-yard touchdown run to go up 27-6 with 12:10 to go in the game. McKinley Sandefur later punched in a four-yard touchdown run with 57.4 to go in the game to give the Lady Rebels a 33-6 lead after the failed extra point.
With the win, the Lady Rebels will face off against Lumpkin County Saturday, October 30, in the Super Bowl.
