Thompson named Golden Eagles head softball coach

Fannin County Class of 2012 Lady Rebel Karly Thompson has recently been named the Head Coach of the Washington County High School Golden Hawks softball team in Sandersville, Georgia.

Thompson, who played for the Lady Rebels from 2009 to 2012, was a four year starter at shortstop and helped the Lady Rebels to 76 wins in her high school career. Thompson and her team reached the playoffs three times and she finished her high school career with many accolades, and had her number retired in 2017.

Thompson played softball in college at Moorhead State University (MSU), where she helped  lead the Eagles to 28 wins in 2018, their most since 2009.

Thompson started her coaching career at MSU as a graduate assistant coach and later at Presbyterian College as an assistant coach. She has now started her head coaching career.

Thompson said, “I am very excited to begin my high school coaching career at Washington County High School. My goal is to build up the program to its full potential and develop the students not only into great athletes, but strong female leaders. I was blessed to be a part of a strong athletic support system at Fannin County High School, and I hope to be able to replicate that at my new school. It is motivating that Washington County has decided to put an emphasis on building their softball program, and I’m honored that our Principal, Dr.Gilbert, and Superintendent, Dr.Edmond, have put their faith in me to lead the way.”

Thompson will also teach Health and Physical Education at  Washington County High School.
