Week one of The News Observer’s weekly football contest started off with a bang as multiple upsets occurred across the college football world.
With the Whitwell and Copper Basin game being postponed, pickers had 15 games on the week. Georgia is trying to prove that defense still wins championships as they held the Clemson Tigers touchdown-less in their 10-3 win. LSU fell to UCLA, and Vanderbiltpaid $415,000 to ETSU to get beat 23-3.
This week’s first place, $20 winner goes to LaVerne Walker of Morganton, Georgia. Walker was the only picker to go 10-5 this week, nailing the Maryland and Penn State wins.
Second place was a bit more difficult, as four pickers finished 9-6. It was Larrisa Jones of Morganton who picked 48 total points on the tiebreaker game of Florida Atlantic University and Florida that saw 49 total points scored that gave her a second place $15 finish.
