Veterans honored with flags

    Members of Epworth Boy Scout Troop 32 were joined by the North Georgia Honor Guard Friday afternoon, May 23, for the annual placing of American flags on the graves of veterans at Crestlawn Cemetery.

    Epworth Scoutmaster David Lewis estimated at least 150 veterans are laid to rest in the cemetery that lies off Mobile Road.

    Prior to the placing of the flags, the honor guard presented the colors.

    Commander Bill Stodghill explained that the annual event is a chance to honor “those who bravely rose up and fought for something greater than themselves.”

    Memorial Day honors those men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice by laying down their lives in the service of the United States.

    “May their sacrifice continue to inspire and guide us. Our destiny as a free people is entirely up to us,” Stodghill said.
