Graylon Jerome Newman and Joseph Marshman Beasley both face drug trafficking and other charges following a traffic stop in McCaysville Wednesday, May 28.
Newman, 58, of 130 Broadview Drive, Blue Ridge, and Beasley, 61, of 45 Grandview Road, Blue Ridge, are each charged with Trafficking in Cocaine, Illegal Drugs, Marijuana or Methamphetamine; Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute; and Possession and Use of Drug Related Objects. Beasley is also charged with Standards for Brake Lights and Signal Devices.
McCaysville Police Chief Michael Earley said the arrests resulted from a traffic stop.
The incident began around 4 p.m.
Officer Bill Higdon was patrolling on Blue Ridge Drive near East Tennessee Avenue when he observed a vehicle with a malfunctioning passenger side brake light.
He then conducted a traffic stop on Toccoa Avenue near the IGA.
A check run through dispatch revealed Newman had an outstanding probation violation warrant out of Polk County. He was taken into custody without incident and a search conducted of the vehicle.
Earley said the search revealed two separate baggies of suspected methamphetamine weighting 15.51 grams and 14.16 grams. A digital scale and packaging materials were also found.
Deputy Chief Cory Collogan assisted at the scene.
Beasley was being held last week under an $8,500 bond and Newman’s bond was set at $8,000.
“I am proud of the way this case was handled from start to finish,” Earley said.
