Two charged with arson

A couple identified in arrest warrants as husband and wife, Christopher Lynn Stillwell and Kayla Nichole Sylvester, have both been charged with a single felony count of Arson/First Degree as a result of a fire that destroyed a residence listed as their address at 60 Fightingtown Creek Road in McCaysville.

Stillwell, 46, is also charged with Felony, Conspiracy to Commit a Crime.

Sylvester, 35, faces two felony charges, False Statements and Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, and a misdemeanor charge of Obstruction of an Officer.

The warrant sworn out against Stillwell alleging the arson charge says he knowingly “advised, counseled, and procured another to do damage by fire” to the Fightingtown Creek Road structure.

The arson warrant against Sylvester accuses her of setting fires inside the structure after conspiring with her husband.

The conspiracy warrants allege the two worked together to commit the arson.

The other charges against Sylvester arise from making false statements about the case to officers.

Fannin County firefighters were dispatched to the residence, a mobile home with a crawl space, October 19 at 2:02 a.m.

According to the fire report, the first firefighters found moderate, thick black smoke coming from the crawl space and all the eves. Shortly afterwards, flames emerged out of the master bedroom. The structure was listed as a total loss.

Both suspects were initially held in the Fannin County jail without bond.
