Two local residents died Saturday night, August 1, as the result of a head-on collision on Highway 60, Mineral Bluff Highway, between Mineral Bluff and McCaysville.
Fannin County Coroner Becky Callihan identified the victims as Rebekah Grace Rhodes, 37, of Mull Drive, Mineral Bluff, and Elvin Earl Wright, 82, of Pleasant Hill Road, Copperhill.
Rhodes was pronounced dead at Fannin Regional Hospital soon after the collision, and Callihan pronounced Wright dead at the scene. The coroner said Wright died on impact.
A passenger in Rhodes’ vehicle was airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, but no report on the extent of his injuries was available.
Callihan said the crash occurred at 5120 Mineral Bluff Highway, in the straightaway north of the Hothouse Creek bridge.
She said the vehicle driven by Wright traveled into the opposite lane and struck Rhodes’ vehicle head-on.
The crash was called into the Fannin County 911 Center at 9:44 p.m., according to Emergency Management Agency Director Robert Graham.
The Georgia State Patrol report of the crash was not ready Monday morning.
