Scholars: Area’s top high school students recognized by Tri-State
Hitting the books paid off for six high school seniors Thursday night, May 1, as Tri-State EMC awarded $1,000 scholarships to area valedictorians and salutatorians.
The annual Honors Night was held at Tooney’s Music Venue in McCaysville with upcoming high school graduates from Fannin County, Copper Basin and Hiwassee Dam as the guests of honor.
Fannin Valedictorian Jaclyn Cracknell plans to attend Georgia Tech to ultimately become a doctor while Salutatorian Julie Farmer is going to Kennesaw State University to study Exercise Science.
Copper Basin Valedictorian Anna Ballew will pursue a cosmetology license from Tri-County Community College, and Salutatorian Carder Lance is headed to Rocky Top, University of Tennessee, to study business.
Hiwassee Dam’s Top Students are Chloe Grizzle and Olivia McNabb, and they will be attending Tri-County Community College and Tennessee Wesleyan University respectively.
Matthew McDaniel was this year’s guest speaker. He told scholars to “be willing to take some risks ... be a life-long learner ... always make time to laugh ... be willing to enjoy the time ... don’t forget about those who have loved you, supported you and helped you get to where you are.”
