Terry Flowers chosen Fannin Teacher of the Year

Teacher: Newton district runner-up

Terry Flowers of Fannin County High School (FCHS) was named District Teacher of the Year at the Teacher of the Year banquet May 13. He is now elligble for State Teacher of the Year and will be considered for the role.

Flowers is the welding instructor at FCHS. He attended Tri-County Community College where he studied welding technology. He is a member of the Leadership Exploration and Development (LEAD) Career Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) program class of 2025. The program was designed to connect Georgia CTAE educators who wished to gain valuable skills with industry leaders.

“It is my goal to ensure that students have everything they need to be successful in the workforce and thrive in their careers after graduation,” said Flowers.

The district runner-up was Sydney Newton of Fannin County Middle School.

Teachers of the year on the school level were Megan Orton of Blue Ridge Elementary, Kayleigh O’Neal of East Fannin, and Caitlin Snider of West Fannin.

Each of the teachers received awards and were recognized for their accomplishments.

“These teachers exemplify the qualities that make Fannin County such a special place. They understand that education is not confined to the classroom; it extends to building relationships, fostering a sense of community, and instilling values that will serve our students throughout their lives,” said superintendent Shannon Dillard at the banquet.

Students from FCHS Family Career Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) served food and greeted guests at the event.

Students from the FCHS Jazz Band Saxophone Quartet performed music for attendees.
