A self-proclaimed white supremacist was arrested in McCaysville Tuesday, September 1, after he allegedly threatened to kill two people.
Dan Parker Edwards Jr., 47, of Brookstone Apartments in McCaysville has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and two counts of terroristic threats and acts.
McCaysville Police Chief Mike Earley said when officers arrived at the Brookstone complex shortly after 3 p.m, they were “confronted by a very irate male victim” who accused Edwards of threatening to kill himself and his girlfriend. The girlfriend had left the scene, and the male victim told officers Edwards was armed with a rifle.
When officers went to Edwards’ apartment, they were told by a maintenance worker the suspect was at the manager’s office. There, they found Edwards standing outside with no weapon.
They returned with Edwards to his apartment.
The girlfriend had returned during this time after being called by the male victim and told officers had arrived. She repeated the story of Edwards’ threats, Earley said.
After several other neighbors were interviewed, Earley said Edwards was asked for consent to search his apartment for the weapon.
The suspect first refused and claimed he did not have a weapon. But when he was told a search warrant was being obtained, Edwards allowed officers to search.
Earley said the SKS rifle the suspect was alleged to have in his possession was on the bed.
Also seized by officers were cards with the words “National Alliance. Toward a New Consciousness, a New Order, a New People,” on the front. A message on the back included the words, “the future is what we make it” and condemned a multi-racial society.
Earley said the couple Edwards threatened was white.
